In 1982 the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club purchased its 1912, 36 ton HEISLER logging locomotive.

Upon arrival in Freeport it was stored and periodically displayed for four years in the Clubs building on the Stephenson County Fairgrounds.

When the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad went bankrupt our Club purchased on  July 5, 1983 the 1.72 miles of right-of-way, which runs diagonally from Walnut and Lamm Roads to Baileyville Road, without rails or ties.

Rail was hauled from as far as Mankato, MN and ties were salvaged and purchased throughout Illinois.  The first track was laid by Club Members on bare roadbed May 28, 1985.

The railroad shed was built in 1986 and now houses the novelty booth.

The Silver Creek Depot, dedicated in 1993, handles ticket sales and houses a large donated collection of railroad paraphenalia.

Make plans now to bring your family and friends for an exciting ride on a real steam locomotive.  For additional information or scheduling please call.
